Graduated from the Mining Faculty of the Silesian University of Technology in 1970. At the same high academic degree of doctor (1978) and postdoctoral degree (1987). In 1999, he gained a Full Academic Title of Professor. From the beginning of his academic career he has been continuously connected with the Silesian University of Technology. From 2008 to 2016, he was the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. He was the vice-president and then in 1993-1996 and 1997-2000 the chairman of the board of the State Agency for Restructuring of Coal Mining in Katowice. In the years 2000-2001 he was the Deputy Minister of Economy in the government of prof. Jerzy Buzek, one of the authors of the hard coal mining restructuring programs in Poland. Professor Magdalena Pichlak is a graduate of the University of Economics in Katowice. In 2005, she defended her Ph.D. thesis at the Faculty of Organization and Management at the Silesian University of Technology. Since 2013 she has been an employee of the above mentioned University, currently at the position of Professor. For many years she has been concentrating, in her scientific and research activity, on the concepts, methods, and tools of innovation management in contemporary organizations. She is the author of over 70 domestic and foreign scientific publications. Featured (in 2014) 1st Prize in the 11th Competition of the Committee of the Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the category of habilitation work. She is a member of scientific organizations, including KNOiZ PAN, EURAM, BAM.
